The third child of Mary Benjamin was Marcus. Marcus was born in 1907 to Mary and Jeremiah Benjamin in Garden Castle, St. Thomas.
As an adult, Marcus moved to Serge Island, St. Thomas and then to Kingston. He worked by selling coal in the grass yard market in Kingston.
Marcus was married, however, his wife’s name is unknown. Their one child – Trevor – is last known to have resided in Kingston.
Marcus is remembered as a noticeably handsome man who had a quiet demeanor and often kept to himself. He had a heart full of love for his family especially his mother. His nieces and nephews remember his generosity when visited in the market. He enjoyed playing cricket.
In the early 1980s, Marcus became ill in the grass yard and was taken to the hospital where he died. |
