The seventh child of Mary Benjamin was Emerson also known as Likkle man or Benji.  Born May 4, 1918 in Garden Castle, St. Thomas, Emerson was the fifth child from the marriage of Mary and Jeremiah Benjamin.

Emerson was a jack-of-all-trades kind of man.  While living in Llandewey, he was a shoemaker and politician.  He also was a farmer and businessman – owned and operated a grocery shop in Kingston.  He traveled to America several times on farm work.  His wits made him known as the “valley lawyer” in Llandewey and the “lawyer of the family.”

Emerson had four children with Kathleen (Puncie) : Glasentine, Carrenden, Duleta, and Hillary.  He later married Ena  and had six children together: Basil, Caroll, Harvey, Cohen, Gary, and Lenley.

He is described as a very generous man who provided for his family.  Like his brothers, he enjoyed playing cricket as the ricket keeper.  He was known to have an easy-going personality.

Emerson passed away February 20, 1992.  His body was buried in his yard in Llandewey.
